Black Sun Studios in association with Fen Model Show are proud to present an exclusive painting class with Martin Collier. With his experience as a show creator and international judge, Martin will share proven techniques, insider tips, and the mindset required to help you move from Standard to Masters category. 

 Martin is a UK-based figure painter, international judge and co-founder of the UK’s leading figure event, the Fen Model Show. He is a passionate ambassador of the hobby, winner of multiple accolades and has a desire to grow the competitive and display painting elements of the hobby here in the U.K.   

This class is designed to provide students with a new outlook to their painting, moving from merely painting figures to creating eye catching projects, that can make their mark at a figure show. Students will paint the Orin bust, sculpted by Quentin Fontinel.

CLASS STRUCTURE 

• Fur – Learn the techniques behind rendering fur correctly, creating realism and interest. Use references to support your painting and select a colour to compliment the overall colour scheme and ambience. 
• Special Techniques – This segment will explore how to conjure a compelling idea or moment for your project. Learn how to implement certain effects to further the narrative – such as painting realistic wood, freehand designs, paint chipping, weathering and more. 
• Tips and Insights – There will be time throughout the day to discuss various elements that help to create a standout piece. What does FMS look for when awarding their CORRR award? How do you develop as a painter and move up from Standard to Masters category? How to build confidence in your ability and receive validation in your figure painting journey
