Description
In this new series of classes, Black Sun Studio manager, Jay Martin, takes the spotlight. These beginner-focused painting sessions combine light theory, hands-on exercises, and live demonstrations, all enhanced by constructive feedback. We foster an engaging learning atmosphere by encouraging questions and discussions throughout each session. While our two-day Weekend Workshops are designed to support figure painters of all experience levels, these single-day classes are tailored specifically for newcomers.
Often, the fundamental skills necessary for creating striking figures or busts can be overlooked. Common questions seen online include what type of glue to use, how to pin a miniature, or the difference between a glaze and a wash. Others inquire about blending techniques, where to place highlights and shadows, or which brush size to use for various strokes. While these are important questions, some students may feel shy about asking in a classroom setting—though others might be thinking the same thing.
Held in our purpose-built studio in Epping, these classes aim to provide an inclusive, immersive experience. Participants typically start at similar skill levels, creating a comfortable and relaxed environment. This setting encourages open dialogue and active participation, ensuring each attendee gains the most from their learning experience.
Students will be painting the 75mm figure, Bress the Old Barbarian from Black Sun Miniatures (figure included in price of the class) and will receive a free 50mm round plinth provided by our class sponsor, TARO Model Maker. Seats are strictly limited so book early, to avoid disappointment. There is no lunch break scheduled for this class but Black Sun Studios will provide Tea, Coffee and Biscuits free of charge.
Students will receive an email with the following links:
